Shynese Alexander
Credentialed Doula
Certified Personal Trainer
Hi!
My name is Shynese. I am a proud mother to a set of girl/boy twins. My pregnancy encouraged me to become a doula. At 25, I was told it would be unlikely for me to have children. Three years later, I was informed that not only was I pregnant but pregnant with twins!
As you can imagine, all of my emotions took over... fear... anxiety... excitement.... and emotions I don't have words for. I was determined to educate myself on twin pregnancy as they are deemed "high risk". I did not want to be put on bed rest. I was also worried about being able to continue my fitness journey and my ability to carry both babies full term. Throughout my pregnancy, I did what I set out to do through educating myself. By doing so, I learned how so many women aren't heard during their pregnancy and that the mortality rate was increasing (especially for women of color). This is when I decided I was gong to be a voice, for not only myself, but for other expectant mothers. My ultimate goal as a doula is to help mothers and families have the birthing experience that they desire and not one that is forced on them.
Aside from mom life, I spend most of my free time working out. I am a certified personal trainer, and am currently pursuing my certification in prenatal and postnatal training. I have worked as a case manager in the mental health, substance use, and developmental disability community for 12 years.
I hope to bring all of this together to help individuals and families in whatever space they are in, and move them to the space they want to be in.
